User talk:Anthere
Add topicHi, Anthere. Could you please let us know more closely why you block User:JarlaxleArtemis on our WQ:VP? Including you banned him in which qualification (Board member, Steward etc...)?
We have no policy to ban users because he or she has been banned from the other community. And it is not very accountable to put a line in Block log in my opinion. The user in question occured no trouble on this project, so I would like to have a public explanation. It doesn't mean I complain you about blocking. I just would like you to give a comment to the community. --Aphaia 09:04, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
Hi. I did not have time to fix all points this morning about this user this morning. But here is generally my stance on the issue. This user has have a generally totally unacceptable behavior on at least one project. His case is currently pending for banning for a year on the english wikipedia. It would be for a whole bunch of reasons, such as in particular for use of profanities and personal attacks against editors. The arbcom is taking months to fix the issue. My edits on his talk page have been reverted by him three times. He is currently blocked. I have received mails from him, one calling me a "fucking bitch".
My opinion is that it is just plain unacceptable behavior from anyone working on our projects. Some time ago, an editor threatened to sue the Foundation for the reason another editor was displaying private information about him/her on the projects. If this is not acceptable from anyone to display private information, I also consider it is unacceptable from ANY editor to insult and humiliate any editors without a reaction of some sort. And such behavior imho should grant at least a temporary block on the projects he is participating to, in particular when the issue is mentionned by some editors.
This is a personal position, but, my position is definitly that such a behavior is NOT acceptable. It is my position that a minimum of wikilove and respect of others should be showed between participants. My qualification was not the one of a steward who is not allowed to take such a decision, but the one of a board member.
Now, if your community decide to revert the block and welcome warmly such an editor, please suit yourself. Revert the block. And hold the responsability of the editor good behavior. Anthere
Thanks Ant, I am sad to hear you blamed so. You are not so, definitely. But you seems not to be yourself now with a heavy frustration.
- You missed one of my points, if it is a decision by the Board, I am les interest in further argument. And following your statement on the above, you state it is your decision as a Board member. Do I understand you correctly? If not, please let me know.
- I am not allowed to make such a decision as a steward. It is not a decision of the board, I have not been able to discuss online with jimbo and angela for ages... However, it is a decision as a board member. If you feel it is not suitable, then revert or ask Jimbo, who will probably be a better reference than I.
- I would like you to notice you that you could ask (demand, or another word more suitable) the community to block him on that reason. The information on the above deserves to consinder and it could affect the community decision. Or I would like you to consider you had been better not to make an action by yourself, but find a delegate.
- The english arbcom is taking months to make a decision, which outcome seems quite obvious to me. I would find sad that you yourself take 6 months to block someone who is clearly, amongst other things, having a very unclear behavior with regards to copyright respect. One editor could also be less tolerant than LinuxBeak and also threaten to sue us for the insult he would receive. I would find most sad that 6 months are also necessary here to come to the decision the editor is problematic after it took so many months for a first project to do so. So, I prefer to do a preemptive block (not a infinite one), which can 1) make your community aware the guy might be a problem and 2° find the time to make a decision if needed here. In case you go to his user talk page on en, you'll notice he reverts all "bad comments" about him there, so it makes little sense I leave a warning here, which he will revert on the spot. Still, in case of cp infringment or insults left to people, the Foundation will be liable.
- As the matter you mentioned here and there, I don't think it is suitable to argue here, but I would like you to notice your words suggest you judge things from the viewpoint of 'friend or foe'. And on my part, I know you esteem justice and far from favoritism, so I don't care your current tone.
- I mostly mean to protect the community and the good editors from the community as much as I can, and to remove or do what I can for those who are not suitable to leave. But I can only help if there is a general feeling that what I do is meant to help. If what I try to do to help is heavily criticized, I will not dare do it again. Board members can only do so if the community trust they do not act with bad faith.
- Have a nice day, Salut. Aphaia
- Have a good sunday Aphaia and hope you are well.
SheSaid
[edit]In regards to: Wikiquote:Village_pump#SheSaid I would be interested in joining any effort conducted on wikiquote itself (I am blocked on Meta, unfortunately).
For example, there are two women who are redlinked on List of the White House Coronavirus Task Force members, one of them is the coordinator of the Task Force itself. Ottawahitech (talk) 16:49, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for organizing the Wikiquote:Village_pump#webinar. I found it useful. I hope this will catch on - we could definitely use help at Talk: Ann Landers. Ottawahitech (talk) 17:08, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you ! Anthere (talk) 21:14, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi again, I added a postcard to my user page as suggested at: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wiki_Loves_Women/SheSaid#So_what_should_I_do_to_help_?
- but when I click on the postcard it takes me to the file at commons and not to an explanation of this drive. Am I making sense? Ottawahitech (talk) 18:04, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you ! Anthere (talk) 21:14, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
So sorry to hear on the village pump that you have/had Covid. From all I hear it is a terrible disease. I hope you get over it very soon. You have done a great job on #shesaid and I hope you will be able to continue. Ottawahitech (talk) 20:29, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for your support User:Ottawahitech. The past 11 days have been real tough but I feel I am now on the right path, though I suspect it will take me more time to be really "fixed". My whole family got it as well so we are still deep in it... Anthere (talk)
- Thanks again for reaching out to communicate with the community here. I am sure it is not easy to do. Please let us know how you are doing when you feel like it. Be well, Ottawahitech (talk) 22:45, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- I see you have started contributing again. That's excellent news. Members of the en-WQ have been busy building on the skeleton you left us at WQ:shesaid.
- Please take it easy, and take a lot of rest before diving back in. Hapyy new year, Ottawahitech (talk) 02:47, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
An idea for the next WQ shesaid campaign
[edit]Hi Anthere,
I was looking at the Twitter en-WQ article and noticed that not one of the celebrities quoted on the page was a woman.
I wonder if it would be a good idea to have the next campaign centered on providing quotes from notable women to various social networking articles. What do you think? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 16:59, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- I think it is a great idea. Let me show you what Malik is doing on the French Wikiquote / Wikipedia.
- He set up that page : https://fr.wikiquote.org/wiki/Wikiquote:SheSaid/Hall_of_Fame_2021, so that it can be used to populate https://fr.wikiquote.org/wiki/Wikiquote:Citation_du_jour
- And then quotes can also be used to populate the Wikimag (the French version of our Wikipedia magazine), such as here : https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipédia:Wikimag/2021/42#Citation
- Now we could perfectly « sort out » a list of cool quotes and use those on twitter and various places . Could be instagram too. Anthere (talk) 17:13, 18 November 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for an example of what can be done. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone at en-WQ who can do anything like that. In my experience it impossible to get any of the long-term enWQuotians (with the exception of one or two very busy individuals) to help with the simplest tasks required to make the #shesaid campaign successful. I hope I am making sense. Ottawahitech (talk) 14:42, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
- Very true. Well, let’s keep that in mind and simply do what is possible to do :) Anthere (talk)
- On a more uplifting note:
- en-WQ now has over 100 articles about African women
- en-WQ has gained dozens of new good-faith editors who will hopefully stick arond after the 2021-campaign ends.
- Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 20:30, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
- This is good to know ! Candy started to compute the figures this year and she will add her findings next week on the meta page. We have a very strong participation in Italian again this year. Ukrainian seems very active too. French is more sluggish but ok. We have 38 entries in Igbo :) I think Candy was having difficulties to figure out how many new women we had in English because not all are added on the list and the hashtag tool is broken ! So it is super hard to track actually. Some of them might be listed into those subpages m:Wiki Loves Women/Focus Group/She Said Campaign but not in the actual page. The real good news is that it leads new participants to discover Wikiquote ! Anthere (talk)

Tracking
[edit]A decade or so ago I was an unwitting participant in a similar contest for which i received an unexpected award. The contest was held on enwiki by the w:wp: WikiProject Medicine. I wonder if user:whatamIdoing knows how they tracked participants. Just a thought. Ottawahitech (talk) 13:33, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
- If you refer to this message, it's not a contest. Someone ran a script to count up everyone who made edits to articles tagged by WPMED, and then posted messages to hundreds of people's talk pages. They did it once a year for several years. I don't think it's been done since the pandemic started. WhatamIdoing (talk) 06:29, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
- Yes this is what I meant. I thought it was one of the many contests I saw at enwiki in which I never intentionally participated. Interesting that they stopped holding those just in time for COVID
(which has just disappeared off the enwiki main page where it has been lodged for well over a year. I wonder if it is because wikipedians believe it is no longer a threat? Best proof that enwiki is run by Americans for Americans -- oops, sorry, no politics :). - BTW I am trying the Reply button which I think just showed up on some WQ talkpages. Is there a way to add an edit summary? Ottawahitech (talk) 00:36, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

- Anthere, you are working way too hard for someone recovering from a serious illess. Please take it easy, there wil be a tomorrow on en-wiki (I hope?). BTW I wasn't sure where you wanted me to drop Marie-Christine Gasingirwa? I hope I am making sense? Ottawahitech (talk) 16:32, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi there ! This article has been written by User:Cnyirahabihirwe123. This user is Clementine from Rwanda. She is one of the WLW Focus Group member and leads the m:SheSaid initiative in Rwanda. So yeah, all the stuff produced by her group is to be added to the list of created entries. In case you ask... yes, we have communicated the need to either add them to the page OR to put the hashtag... but some of the group members are completely new to Wikiquote, or to this campaign (and in some cases, quite baby wikimedians actually...) so there is a learning curve :))))
- So yes, let’s put those in ! Anthere (talk)

Nigerian women articles on WQ
[edit]We now have 101 women in Category:Nigerian women!!! a category that you created on 1 October 2021. I cannot tell how many were added since the cat-creation, but I am sure it is the majority. Ottawahitech (talk) 15:35, 15 December 2021 (UTC)
2022 shesaid campaign?
[edit]Hi Anthere, I see you have added the following text at the bottom Of the introduction of Wikiquote:SheSaid:
Next drive... October to December 2022 ! Before publishing the Wikiquote add #SheSaid on the Summary section then PUBLISH and/or list the article below.
I checked the shesaid meta page, but I see no icon associated with this year's campaign. Are you still the organizer of the campaign, or should I bug someone else about it? :) Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 16:30, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, it is on :) Ok, I thought it was kind of obvious that the main page was about the current version whilst the 2021 and 2020 were archives. But... apparently, it was not clear... so I updated the banner to make it clearer :) What do you think ? https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:WLW_SheSaid_menu Anthere (talk) 01:30, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for the prompt reply.
- Apologies about my question I was just wondering because Meta has a lot of dead pages, and I don’t want to lose momentum by sending people off to the wrong location.
- I like to check pageviews to determine if an effort is paying off. So I checked the views on meta. As you can see the ‘’Wiki Loves Women/SheSaid: ‘’ page had more pageviews in October of 2020 than in 2021 and even less 2022. I hope this does not mean we are losing the battle…
- I am worried because I have not noticed a lot of new wanabe editors or new articles created about women in October at enwq. I know I myself have neglected Wikiquote:SheSaid only partially because of lack of time, but mostly because an atmosphere of excitement seems to be lacking around here.
- I better stop this rambling that leads to nowhere…
- Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 17:51, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
- Well, first, no... it is not dead. Perhaps less views in 2021 than 2020... but rather more entries in 2021 than 2020... so who knows...
- Some peers want the project to be promoted in the site notice this year (the banner is ready... but they were waiting for some translations). So I expect more views of the meta page this year. Whether it will results in more or less entries... I dunno. Wikiquote is traditionally a small wiki project, with not so many active participants and it is never a place bubbling with excitement. I know I was happy precisely with that the past two years, because the French wikiquote is a very low pace quiet space. I participate to a giant edit-a-thon this week and hope I can get some entries done ;) Anyway... I am personally not expecting a huge amount of entries ;) We do our best... still, the Ukrainian are up to. The Philippines as well. We are a handful on the French one from different coutries. There are at least two groups in Nigeria who are keen. I hope Camelia and Ciel will have some time on it as well, but I am not sure how much.
- Prithee P and I organizing a webinar next Saturday. If it is not too early for you... you will be welcome ;)
- Next week, I will send a few messages to some related lists, Women in Red and such. I did not have time last week :( But the social media communication (on Facebook and twitter) have already started thanks to Afek (https://twitter.com/WikiLovesWomen). And we use the Wiki GenderGap Telegram channel to discuss SheSaid.
- Anyway, yours is not a rambling :) It is fair comments and questions. Your guidance is welcome !!! Anthere (talk) 23:27, 9 October 2022 (UTC)
Newbie
[edit]I decided to start participating on Wikiquote after learning about SheSaid. I'm not sure if I did this correctly - Lucy Feagin. SL93 (talk) 05:26, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
- @SL93:. Welcome ! Looks good to me. My suggestion would be to also add the sister links on the Wikipedia article so that readers find the wikiquote page more easily; Such as here. Cheers. Anthere (talk) 10:35, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Shesaid-box on the top of each page
[edit]Today I was visiting Simple-enwp and to my delight was met with a shesaid-box on the top of each page.
The reason for my visit were notifications (old, but I do not visit Simple very often) that 3 of pages I had created a few years ago were facing deletion. This was rather ironic because 2 of the 3 were women-related pages. I cannot say more because I do not want to be accused of “Participating by proxy”. Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 14:08, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- lol. Yes, the banner is active. We are keeping them on a very low diet. I saw it a couple of times. Once on Wikiquote and once on the English Wikipedia. Anthere (talk) 14:13, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Well it seems to be working: almost 150 participants have registered so far at enWQ shesaid participants. Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 21:28, 20 October 2022 (UTC)

Jean-Yves Duclos
[edit]Hi Anthere,
I would like to add a Canadian politician, Jean-Yves Duclos (sorry not a woman:), to the French WQ. But since I do not speak French I wonder how inviting the folks over at https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiquote are and if they insist I read documentation before starting a new page? Would I be better off posting the information in English at the French equivalent of the Village pump?
Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 17:10, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi User:Ottawahitech I think it is probably more reasonable to invite contributions from the village pomp because French use templates that you would not be familiar with and that will be complicated for you if you do not read French... Perhaps also ask if there is a page to request translation ? Anthere (talk) 16:02, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
Beaucoup de nouveautés
[edit]Bonjour. Merci -- User:Djm-leighpark(a)talk 01:34, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
Merci. -- User:Djm-leighpark(a)talk 06:01, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
default sort problems
[edit]Hi Anthere,
Just to let you know many of the participants of the #shesaid campaign use unnecessary parenthesizes in the default sort template and unfortunately that creates problems in categories. For example the following in category: living people:
Ottawahitech (talk) 20:17, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
Yeah... I was looking and... lot’s of stuff to clean-up... pffff Anthere (talk) 20:19, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Is it possible all participants are using a template to publish a new page? If so, it may be easier to fix by providing better instructions rather than trying to fix all those articles. The good news is that most of the articles have gone up in quality, I think? I wonder how @UDScott feels about it. They do a lot more in this area. Ottawahitech (talk) 20:38, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Perhaps it is related to a specific group ? Have you noticed that articles with this problem were all in relation to a specific country ? We could first inform group leads to make sure they are aware, and possibly target the groups where we noticed the issue ? I am already noting many articles untagged in relation to Nigeria and Rwanda. Anthere (talk) 20:56, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- I have t do some research to figure out which groups make this small error. What does "untagged" mean? Ottawahitech (talk) 21:04, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Articles that do not have the tag #shesaid even though it seems evident to me that their editors are part of the drive. Anthere (talk) 21:13, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, a lot of cleanup is needed as a result of the SheSaid campaign additions - don't get me wrong, I am happy for new additions, but so many of the added pages need some level of cleanup. I was trying to keep up with them and clean them up as they got added, but got completely overwhelmed by the sheer numbers, so I've resorted to tagging them for cleanup instead. In this case, yes I believe the root cause is the template. But as with any template, the parenthesis are put there to show where template text needs to be replaced by the correct text for a given page (and the parentheses removed). I'm sure this is a product of having new(ish) users creating these pages and not knowing the ins and outs of templates. We probably need more explicit instructions, but we'll still have to go back and clean up all the ones that have this issue. ~ UDScott (talk) 15:43, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

- In fact, this is called a description on a user page :)))) Anthere (talk) 18:08, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- When all articles are listed, I’ll try to go through them by batches starting from the top to remove those parenthesis... waiting for the dust to settle... Anthere (talk)

- So I found that all articles produced by the Rwanda group were done... without ANY hashtag... I asked them to find a way to add them to the list... https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/courses/Wikimedia_User_Group_Rwanda/Wiki_Loves_Women_SheSaid_2023_in_Rwanda_(10th_December-30th)?enroll=zkhnypcf

Good_news - page_views
[edit]I wrote about this at Wikiquote_talk:SheSaid#Good_news_-_page_views and included a link to the huge number of pageviews we received in October. Unfortunately the November pageviews are still not available, so it would really be nice if I could embed the pageviews graph right in the talkpage, a feature that used to be available on Wikimedia through Graph:PageViews. I know this because I had it installed on my wikidata user talkpage, but now it says: Graphs are temporarily unavailable due to technical issues.
I wonder if you know who I can contact to have this issue resolved. I am currently blocked on enwp, simple and Meta, so cannot contact anyone there. Thanks in advance for any clue you may be able to provide, no hurry. Ottawahitech (talk) 08:57, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
