Dialogue [ edit ]
[The Enterprise crew have found Zefram Cochrane]
: Deanna Troi [very drunk] Time line?! This is no time to argue about time! We don't have the time. [she pauses, then looks confused.] What was I saying?
: You're drunk. William T. Riker
: Deanna Troi [offended] I am not.
: William T. Riker [laughs] Yes, you are.
: Look, he wouldn't even talk to me unless I had a drink with him. And then, it took three shots of something called Deanna Troi just to find out he was the one we're looking for. And I spent the last 20 minutes trying to keep his hands off me. tequila [repeatedly pokes Riker in the chest] So don't go criticizing my counseling technique.
: William T. Riker [laughs] Sorry.
: Deanna Troi [defensively] It's a primitive culture. I'm just trying to blend in.
: You're blended all right. William T. Riker
: Let me just make sure that I understand you correctly, Zefram Cochrane Commander. A group of cybernetic creatures from the future have traveled back through time to enslave the human race... and you're here to stop them?
: That's right. William T. Riker
: Hot damn! You're heroic. Zefram Cochrane
: Someone once said, "Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man and let history make its own judgements." William T. Riker
: That's rhetorical nonsense. Who said that? Zefram Cochrane
: William T. Riker [smiling] You did. Ten years from now.
: You want to destroy the ship, and run away. You coward. Jean-Luc Picard
: Jean-Luc! Beverly Crusher
: Worf [furious] If you were any other man I would kill you where you stand!
: Get off my bridge! Jean-Luc Picard
[Lily tries to convince Picard to self-destruct the Enterprise, but he is defiant.]
: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt your little quest. Captain Ahab has to go hunt his whale! Lily Sloane
: Jean-Luc Picard [offended] What?
: You do have books in the 24th century? Lily Sloane
: Jean-Luc Picard [understanding her meaning] This is not about revenge!
: Liar! Lily Sloane
: Jean-Luc Picard [agitated] This is about saving the future of humanity!
: Jean-Luc, blow up the damn ship!! Lily Sloane
: NO! NOOOOOOOOO!!! Jean-Luc Picard [smashes a display case in anger; Both pause, shocked] I will not sacrifice the Enterprise. We've made too many compromises already, too many retreats. They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate entire worlds, and we fall back. Not again! The line must be drawn here! This far, no further! And I will make them PAY for what they've done!
: Lily Sloane [looking at the broken remains of the Enterprise-D model] You broke your little ships. [pause] See you around, Ahab.
: Jean-Luc Picard [softly, to himself, as he realizes Lily is right] "And he piled upon the whale's white hump the sum of all the rage and hate felt by his whole race. If his chest had been a cannon he would have shot his heart upon it."
: What? Lily Sloane
: Jean-Luc Picard . Moby Dick
: Actually, I never read it. Lily Sloane
: Ahab spent years hunting the white whale that crippled him; but in the end, it destroyed him and his ship. Jean-Luc Picard
: I guess that captain didn't know when to quit. Lily Sloane
: Begin auto-destruct sequence, authorization Picard-four-seven-alpha-tango. Jean-Luc Picard
: Computer, Commander Beverly Crusher Beverly Crusher. Confirm auto-destruct sequence, authorization Crusher-two-two-beta-Charlie.
: Computer, Lieutenant Commander Worf Worf. Confirm auto-destruct sequence. Authorization Worf-three-seven-gamma-echo.
Computer: Command authorization accepted. Awaiting final code to begin auto-destruct sequence.
: This is Captain Jean-Luc Picard Jean-Luc Picard. Destruct sequence alpha-one, 15 minutes, silent countdown. Enable.
Computer: Self-destruct in 15 minutes. There will be no further audio warnings.
: So much for the Beverly Crusher Enterprise-E.
: We barely knew her. Jean-Luc Picard
: You think they'll build another one? Beverly Crusher
: Plenty of letters left in the alphabet. Jean-Luc Picard
: Everybody ready to make some history? William T. Riker
: Always am. Geordi La Forge
: I think I forgot something. Zefram Cochrane
: What? William T. Riker
: I don't know, probably nothing. Zefram Cochrane
: Deanna Troi [at launch center] Begin ignition sequence.
: Oh God, now I remember! Zefram Cochrane
: What? Geordi La Forge
: Where is it? Zefram Cochrane
: What?! Geordi La Forge
: We can't lift off without it. Zefram Cochrane [fidgets clothes for something]
: Geordi, we've got to abort! William T. Riker
: Zefram Cochrane [as Troi continues countdown] No, no, wait I've found it... Let's rock 'n' roll! [plugs a small disc into a slot in the Phoenix control panel]
: Eight, seven, six - Deanna Troi [removes headset as " Magic Carpet Ride" begins blaring through everyone's headsets and the Phoenix lifts off]
: Destroy them. Borg Queen [Data fires three quantum torpedoes at the Phoenix ] Watch your future's end. [sees torpedoes home in on the spacecraft, but is shocked when they miss; to Data] DATA!
: Data [in a mocking tone] Resistance...is futile! [breaks open the coolant conduit on the warp core and coolant starts to flood the room]
: She brought me closer to humanity than I ever thought possible, and for a time...I was tempted by her offer. Data
: How long a time? Jean-Luc Picard
: Zero-point-six-eight seconds, sir. For an android, that is nearly an eternity. Data
[The Vulcans have landed to meet Cochrane.]
: Vulcan [flashes Vulcan greeting] Live long and prosper.
: Zefram Cochrane [tries to respond with greeting but opts to shake Vulcan's hand instead] Thanks.
