Welcome

[edit]

Hello, AC9016, and welcome to the English Wikiquote, a free compendium of quotations written collaboratively by people just like you!

To ask for advice or assistance feel free to drop by the Village Pump or ask on my talk page. Happy editing! And again, welcome! ~ Kalki·· 18:00, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Your User page

[edit]

AC9016, just some friendly advice: the information you've added to your talk page is better served on your User page. The Talk page should be reserved for just that, talk - when others wish to converse with you. Your User page is yours to add to as you see fit. Thanks. ~ UDScott (talk) 20:21, 7 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Made the change almost immediately after you notified me of the error I was making, setting up the Talk page like that. Thank you. --AC9016 (talk) 20:43, 7 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Request for comment on User:MonsterHunter32's massive censorship of sourced quotes without discussion

[edit]

I am asking the community to comment about the censorship of this user that I have already alerted about here Talk:India#Censorship_of_sourced_quotes_by_User:MonsterHunter32 and at other places, but it didn't help. What should be done about the continued massive removal of sourced quotes by MonsterHunter32 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · edit filter log · block user · block log) when he refuses to even move the quotes to the talkpage with full reasoning for each quote as was asked by multiple users many many times? You can read more about it at the link above, and at the other discussions linked in that discussion. Thank you. --Jedi3 (talk) 14:19, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I am unfamiliar with this user and any actions they may or may not have taken over any given period of time. I cannot make any comment on this issue on either side. --AC9016 (talk) 15:03, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

The user User:Jedi3 keeps falsely blaming me of censorship and keeps edit-warring. He is only engaged in POV-pushing and adding statements just so they agree with his view. He doesn't care if his claims are made up like he did at Sikandar Butshikan, indirectly admitting to verbatim to verbatrim copying from Wikipedia before checking the source.  He also added a quote at Muhammad bin Qasim that wasn't about him.

Or making up a false reason to remove a quote at Muslim conquest of the Indian subcontinent. Or he keeps making up his quotes eloquent, poignant, witty etc despite the "quotes" not even falling at all within the definition. He does this just to have his edits there at all costs. I've told him several times about this including here.

He falsely keeps saying I'm censoring him when all I've done is remove those quotes which aren't notable in any manner. Not those which are notable and i've preserved many of the quotes he has added. also removed the subsection of my complaint here. He himself censors me here and here in the past.

I've warned him several times including here, here and here. He doesn't listen and has removed my comments several times from his talk page.

Not to mention this person has also insulted me by terming me annoying after another user called me so, besides also calling me a vandal, when he himself can be indicted for edit-warring and vandalism. please block this user. I've been trying to cooperate with him, but it is clear he only wants his ideology imposed here. Their is no bar on any person of any ideology, even though Wikiquote is about neutrality but he doesn't care about anything and is being unprofessional.  and it is clear he doesn't care what he does to get his edits here at all costs.

Right after his block expired, Jedi3 is back at edit-warring before even waiting for a discussion and made 3 reverts at 3 articles. See his recent reverts, here, a sly attempt to befool others in edit summary at Aurangzeb of "article under construction", at Malabar rebellion. He proceeded to make additional subtractions and additions at Aurangzeb, even though a revert is a revert whether partial or complete. He is trying to fool others. And just after his block expired, he has started edit-warring again and made three reverts. I would first like to check all his quotes and then discuss them one by one.

I have already complained him at Wikiquote:Administrators' noticeboard#Jedi3's disruptive behaviour, false claims and censorship. I ask you comment there and take action against him for his disruptive edits. MonsterHunter32 (talk) 15:01, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I am not an administrator and cannot make any comment on this issue regardless, as I have no familiarity with either of the two users who appear to be involved. This needs to be appealed to an administrator, as I cannot have anything to do with it. --AC9016 (talk) 15:04, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

AC9016, I had accidentally posted Jedi3's comment and section again while copying my comment from another talk page. I am not removing "his comment". Only a copy of his comment I accidentally pasted. The comment I accidentally pasted is basically the same as the one made here by Jedi3. Please see my edit. I was only correcting my mistake. Nothing else. I hope you have no problem in me correcting a simple copying mistake. MonsterHunter32 (talk) 21:46, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Then it looks to me like our business here is concluded. I won't put back the text you removed. --AC9016 (talk) 23:26, 24 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for my copying mistake causing confusion. As soon as I realized I copied and pasted the same comment from another talk page, I removed it. MonsterHunter32 (talk) 14:14, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
All right, that is fine. I'll leave this stuff here as I said, but I do not want to have anything more to do with this. --AC9016 (talk) 21:44, 25 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Hello AC9016,

Really sorry for the inconvenience. This is a gentle note to request that you check your email. We sent you a message titled "The Community Insights survey is coming!". If you have questions, email surveys@wikimedia.org.

James Mattis

[edit]

Hi AC9016

This happened months ago but I only noticed it today, it appears the wiki-software thinks I am the creator of Jim Mattis, but all I did was create a redirect to James Mattis, the article you started back in 2018 . I don't know about you, but I find this disturbing.

After checking it out I now know that I created a redirect to your article in September, and another wikiquotien moved your contents onto my redirect. I am not sure why they moved it, but I definitely don't like the end result.

Am I making sense? Ottawahitech (talk) 18:14, 24 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

You are. I looked over the page and things seem to be all right, though. It should be okay. --AC9016 (talk) 00:16, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

What is it? --AC9016 (talk) 00:17, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Ignore it. Among other things, the IP is just using you to try and block me and Kalki, falsely claiming that we were sockpuppets of each other and that we called another problematic IP "Jewish", which neither of us would ever do. DawgDeputy (talk) 00:38, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Wow. Wasn't this interesting? This anonymous user is a vandal and needs to be blocked. Problem is they will probably just resurface later under a new IP address, but that's for later. DawgDeputy, I posted a report about this and the threat the anonymous user put on my talk page on UDScott's page to make sure that admin has a timely notice of what's going on. Thank you for your efforts to combat the vandal's damage to the site. I don't know what the talk of a lawsuit is about. This keyboard warrior must not know how laws or suits work. --AC9016 (talk) 00:40, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
I had already posted that report. DawgDeputy (talk) 00:42, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Excellent. I appreciate that. The admins will move on this soon, I'm sure. This site gets vandals and trolls all the time so they know how to deal with them. I need to figure out how to protect my own page against posting by anonymous users.--AC9016 (talk) 00:54, 20 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Harmful to Minors‎

[edit]

I'm not sure that it makes sense to have a separate page for this work, rather than just having a section on the author's page. Do you have a lot of other quotes for Judith Levine outside of from this book? Otherwise it would seen to make sense to not have two redundant pages. Thanks. ~ UDScott (talk) 19:45, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I own the book in question, so I can supply as many quotes as anyone would like, given enough time to go through it and take notes. I do not currently own any other books by her but again, she has written others, and either somebody could help me out there, or I could get around to buying the other books and adding quotes from them to her page. --AC9016 (talk) 19:48, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough, but I might suggest that for now it is probably better to keep them on the author page. If at some point there are enough quotes from other of Levine's works (or other quotes she has in other media) such that the page can stand on its own with those from Harmful to Minors can be moved to their own page. It's not that you couldn't pull many more quotes from that book, but rather that other than that book, there's not much left if they are removed from the author's page. ~ UDScott (talk) 19:56, 17 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
You're always fair and honest in working on this site, so I appreciate that and I agree with you on this. I got ahead of myself, wanting to help Wikiquote expand faster than I had sources/quotes available to support that effort with. I can say, however, that I have ordered a couple more of Judith Levine's books and they'll be arriving within the next few weeks. Once those arrive I can do more to expand the standalone page for Harmful to Minors and Judith Levine's main Wikiquote page. --AC9016 (talk) 18:52, 23 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Url formatting

[edit]

When inserting a url please remember remove excess information in it, such as trackers, sessions, or other similar information. Ilovemydoodle (talk) 00:05, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Thank you for letting me know about that! I didn't know that was something I needed to do, but that makes sense. I appreciate the helpful advice. --AC9016 (talk) 00:53, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
    Thank you for reading! – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 01:11, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
How do I make sure I insert a URL properly on Wikiquote? I thought all I had to do was just copy and paste it in the right spot. If there's somewhere on this site that shows how you format a URL properly, I'll make sure to reference it until I have the procedure memorized. --AC9016 (talk) 01:30, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
    @AC9016:
Usually it’s pretty obvious, at the end of a url there should be a bunch stuff like "&blah_blah=[long string of numbers and letters]", usually you should be able to remove these, sometimes however these are needed so should always test the url after modifying (also any important information is usually shorter and at the begining of the url, for example this url (that you posted:
    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/11/scary-future-american-right-national-conservatism-conference/620746/?utm_campaign=the-atlantic&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR1qlgbP9_k0StWKck7emLTMNNJpxk1RaVSDOk7BlRRrWTqOUzra4ZVTEio/
Lets break this down, the first part ("https"), is the protocal, which is necessary, the second part ("www.theatlantic.com"), is the website domain, which is (obviously) important.
The third part ("ideas/archive/2021/11/scary-future-american-right-national-conservatism-conference/620746") is the subdirectory which is (almost) always needed.
The fourth part usually start with a question mark or ampersand (in this case, question mark), this is (usually but not always) unnecessary, you can usually if you need to keep it, first thing it isn’t one single bit of information after each question mark or ampersand there is the variable name (which stop at the equal sign) if this is a single letter and the stuff after the equal sign but before the next variable isn’t too long (or is human-readable or the only real information in the url) then you should (usually) keep it otherwise you should get rid both the variable name and the stuff after it until the next variable, in the case of this url none of the variables meet that requirement, another thing you can get rid of is variable specifying device information (e.g. desktop, mobile, mozilla).
An example of variables to keep would be like this:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0DPdy98e4c
In this the variable name is short, it is the only real data, and the information is relatively short too, so it get kept.
Also, Remember after making any changes to url always test it. – Ilovemydoodle (talk) 09:06, 6 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

I looked at the conversation and I don't know if I'd have much to offer. I just create and build pages on this site. I have almost no interest in discussions on the workings of the site. I recognize that those are important, but I only have so much time and my interests are strongly focused on adding pages to the site and expanding/improving them, and existing ones. I could see about making a comment on the discussion in question if it is real important to you, however. --AC9016 (talk) 20:19, 17 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

I looked at the conversation in question and it appears to be a technical proposal of some kind, whether or not to add some function to the site's editing tools or somesuch. I do not believe I could comment intelligently on that. I just do not know anything about it. But feel free to reach out if I may be able to offer commentary on something else in the future. --AC9016 (talk) 16:00, 20 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

@AC9016 I've seen you steadily create a number of great articles here over the months I've been around Wikiquote but I wonder if I could ask you to links to the English Wikipedia article as soon as possible after creation to avoid someone else doing it, for example here. It really helps with sitelinking through Wikidata, that then being a 30s set-up. {{DEFAULTSORT}} as well if you can manage it when is relevant. And Categories as well if you can. There used to be 3 people helping on Categories and I think its mainly falling on one person now. This would be quite helpful. Thanks. -- DeirgeDel tac 22:01, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Greetings! Thank you for contacting me. I appreciate the insights and the encouragement. I am not used to adding the appropriate categories and links to a new article; I will admit, I have gotten into a habit of letting someone else take care of that. However, I did not know that there was a shortage of Wikiquote users assisting with those details. I can step up and learn how to do more of the setup for a new page myself.
Altogether I have created somewhere around or over 100 pages in my time on English Wikiquote, so I would say it is about time I learned more of how this site works. Thank you again. I will be glad to do more to help out by adding links and categories to new pages I work on. --AC9016 (talk) 23:47, 24 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

John Adams

[edit]

Dear Sir:

I regret to hear of your dissatisfaction and annoyance in regard to the "endless unexplained edits," as you called them. Be assured that it was never my intention to offend or inflame.

However, I must express some confusion as to the remark that ran as follows: "Although I do not even vaguely appreciate..." Is it not the purpose of this site to turn stubs into something that captures powerful moments from media?

I am open to further conversation with you if that is your desire.

Warmest regards,

--Bicam3ralMind (talk) 18:37, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
