Birthplaces
[edit]Where the people are born is always important, and the U.S. states can be proud of their daughters and sons! This kind of information is difficult to find at Wikipedia.--Risto hot sir (talk) 21:21, 2 January 2018 (UTC) - It might be better, if the categories would be like "Born in Hawaii", not "People from Hawaii" etc. --Risto hot sir (talk) 22:50, 3 January 2018 (UTC) - Is Barack Obama from Hawaii, Illinois or Washington D.C.? I'm not able to inspect the people's whole careers. --Risto hot sir (talk) 20:05, 4 January 2018 (UTC)- When the categories are more complete, You can compare if a person born in New York has better chances to win the Nobel prize than a person in Mississippi, etc. --Risto hot sir (talk) 20:34, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
- Comparing whether a person born in New York has better chances to win the Nobel prize than a person born in Mississippi, has nothing to do with Wikiquote's purpose Risto hot sir. It may be an appropriate use for an encyclopedia or gazetteer, but this activity at Wikiquote is just disruptive. ~ Ningauble (talk) 16:08, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- Well, it might be interesting: are there better chances to be considered "notable" if you are born in New England. --Risto hot sir (talk) 22:07, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- There are many interesting things in the world, but Wikiquote is specifically for quotations. Cluttering it with biographical factoids that have no relevance is a nuisance. ~ Ningauble (talk) 18:00, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
- Where someone is born is very important in child's development. Especially we must know where the poets and novelists are born to understand their texts. - And the category Jews: what does it mean? - religion or race? How much Jewish blood one must have to be a Jew? Was Hitler a Jew?--Risto hot sir (talk) 18:07, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
- This has nothing to to with quotations. ~ Ningauble (talk) 18:09, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

Of course it has! I wonder why New York leads California (which has more inhabitants) 724 - 284. These are only numbers but they can help to understand whose quotations are regarded as "notable".--Risto hot sir (talk) 19:40, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
You don't mean to tell me that the only problem you have with this article is that it is badly formatted? Compare it with any other article and you will see the numerous problems. Just A Regular New Yorker (talk) 01:22, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- No, Just A Regular New Yorker, I never said any such thing. What I said here is that it does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion. Please read Wikiquote:Speedy deletions before tagging articles with the {{db}} tag. I have again restored the {{prod}} tag, and urge you to refrain from any further disruption. ~ Ningauble (talk) 15:51, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- I believe we’ve met a compromise. I wouldn’t call this a “disruption” so I doubt you’ll find any problems with it. Just A Regular New Yorker (talk) 02:50, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Excessive wikilinks?
[edit]I worry that this page has too many wikilinks. Do you share this concern? Thank you ~ DanielTom (talk) 23:14, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
- In particular, some of the Quotes about Homer appear quite ludicrous. ~ Ningauble (talk) 19:26, 16 January 2018 (UTC)
Fake news
[edit]It took a while, but your suggestion got followed. Thanks for your help! Alden Loveshade (talk) 04:40, 29 January 2018 (UTC)
Input
[edit]I would appreciate your input on this discussion that may very well affect the outcome of 102 articles on Wikiquote. I am aware that you commented something along these lines on the talk page for Fuso. Thank you. Just A Regular New Yorker (talk) 23:14, 18 February 2018 (UTC) (Edit - You can find more information here, and here.) Just A Regular New Yorker (talk) 23:36, 18 February 2018 (UTC)
Remove boldface from most "Last words"
[edit]Hello. Can you please weigh in and give your opinion at Wikiquote:Village pump#Boldface in all "last words"? There, I'm proposing to remove boldface from most quotes in Last words, Fictional last words, and their subpages. Details and reasons are given in the discussion itself. Thanks in advance. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 17:50, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

Might I ask what specifically is wrong with the descriptive text for Spryo 2 Ripto's Rage?
[edit]You did not provide an explanation in the edit summary as before citing the basis of your objection as being do to original research in the form of a locations name linking to a similar sounding article on Wikipedia, which I believe you were indeed correct in doing and will further more thank you for having done. This time however, I do not see your cause for concern, unless it is with the idea of adding one or two sentence description summaries of works, which is an issue I think best discussed on the village pump if it is a problem. Need help with disruptive IPs...
[edit]One user continuously adds nonsense and completely unnecessary (and completely inaccurate) extension to certain quotes. I request that that article be protected and this user be blocked indefinitely. WikiLubber (talk) 22:41, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
Thomas and Friends-related articles
[edit]Especially in The Adventure Begins, where the IPs continuously change Sir Topham Hatt's name to The Fat Director (which he was NEVER called in either the TV series nor the films). I request that these IPs be blocked indefinitely and that the pages be blocked for no less than the same period of time. I reported them months ago, but no matter how much I try, these IPs never stop. WikiLubber (talk) 22:41, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
Merge template discussions
[edit]I was not aware of a rule stating that a discussion needed to be started within a certain time frame for applying a merge template, not that I'm against such a rule, it sounds like a reasonable expectation. As reverting you within the next 24 hours would constitute an edit war, were I to begin said discussions today would you be willing to revert your reversion and restore the fine quotes from Virginia Woolf and Jane Austin? I know it takes less time to revert an edit than select the individual improper elements of it, my apologies for wasting your time. Thank you for your assistance and continuing maintenance of this wiki. CensoredScribe (talk) 16:21, 12 July 2018 (UTC)

[edit]Just had this person at enWP creating the article, and I suspect that they will not be giving up easily. As they love enWQ can you please ping me when you are deleting, so I can grab the urls used and I will ensure that COIBot keeps a broader watch. No need to halt deletion or anything like that, as my ombudsman rights allows me to look at deleted works, so I can just grab urls from the deleted works. Thanks if you can. sDrewth 12:08, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

IP vandals 74.70.79.191 and 67.187.116.140
[edit]Continuously add nonsense quotes to articles, such as the Toy Story series, the Shrek series, etc., and not to mention quotes that do not exist from characters that did not even appear in the films! Plus, they send messages on my talk page bragging about their edits just because they think they are funny. But vandalism is not funny. I request these IPs be blocked indefinitely, and all pages they vandalized be protected for at least a year. WikiLubber (talk) 23:52, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
Deleted misquote redirects
[edit]Please restore all of these misquote redirects full speed. There are obvious uses for the redirects - how is a user supposed to find the person who made a notable quote when they accidentally misspell the tense of it? There's probably no way to find the quote sayers' name without a useful redirect. - Bossanoven (talk) 03:21, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
- I do not generally respond well to demands like this, and often do not respond at all. However, I note that your account is blocked indefinitely as a Wikipedia sockpuppet noted for "creating hundreds of pointless redirects, unnecessary categories" and "badgering admins on their talk page". If you persist along these lines you are an inch away from being blocked here as well. ~ Ningauble (talk) 17:40, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
Could you comment?
[edit]Ningauble, I know you are less active lately, but I was wondering if you would care to comment in the discussion at VP (here)? I believe we have discussed similar objections in the past, but these appear to be returning and growing yet again. Thanks. ~ UDScott (talk) 21:15, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
Toy Story vandals
[edit]The vandals on all Toy Story films are at it again, and the one vandalizing Toy Story 2 is vandalizing my talk page again. I request not only long-term blocking of these vandals, but indefinite protection of all articles in question and my talk page. WikiLubber (talk) 04:29, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
soft protection on user talk page
[edit]Hi. Would you be so kind to soft protect my user talk page for a few months. I am one of a few operating at meta who have a xwiki idiot getting their jollies. :-( Thanks if you can. sDrewth 00:47, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
